Patriots Season Ends in a Cold Loss

With an unexpected loss by the Patriots following a 15-game winning streak against the Jets, today’s end to the Patriots season also coincided with the looming notion that this may be Coach Belichick’s last season at the helm.

The Jets were up 9-3 with less than three minutes left when Davis intercepted a Zappe deep ball intended for Jalen Reagor. Then the ball was recovered by the Patriots, handing New England a first down farther down the field. However, Zappe was intercepted two plays later by Tony Adams.

Gillette Stadium was a snow-blind tundra of battle and this war of attrition weighed in favor of the Jets ultimately with a final score of 17-3.

Today was Belichick’s 429th game as head coach of the Patriots, a run that saw him bring six Super Bowl titles and 296 victories (regular season and playoffs) to New England. If today was Belichick’s final run with New England, it ends on a somber note for fans. However, his achievements in his .705 playoff winning percentage, placing him fifth in NFL history, is highly notable as there have been a total of 524 coaches in the 104-year history of the NFL.

“Disappointing finish there today. I have a lot of respect for how the players competed. I have all year,” Belichick told reporters.
