NFL Blindsided by ESPN Fox Mega-Streamer

Last week, ESPN, Fox, and Warner Brothers Discovery announced plans for a joint streaming service despite the NFL’s concern for an outcome that would leave them clout-less in regard to negotiations in licensing costs for content. A partnership between ESPN and Fox could effectively hurt the NFL’s bottom line, so the league is literally scouring its contracts with ESPN and Fox in hopes of finding ‘potential loopholes’ that might keep NFL games off of the new platform.

According to comments by Falcons owner, Arthur Blank, to Daniel Kaplan of FrontOfficeSports.com regarding the mega-steamer, NFL isn’t concerned.

“There’s plenty of competition for the NFL’s media rights,” Blank told Kaplan. “If you reduce it to such a small number then you don’t have quite the opportunity — but I don’t think the league is worried about that at this point.”

Despite the NFL offering a subpar schedules of games to these wayward networks as payback in 2024, the real question stands. Will the NFL’s lawyers actually be able to stop ESPN’s streaming platform?
