Anthropic’s Claude 3 Opus AI model emerged victorious in first place against multiple iterations of OpenAI’s GPT-4 and other LLMs at Chatbot Arena, a site that pits one chatbot model against another.

Anthropic’s Claude 3 Opus AI LLM (Learning Language Model) took first place at Chatbot Arena, where one of the GPT-4 variants were knocked down one rung to second place on the site’s Leaderboard.

Claude 3 Opus is one of three LLMs developed by Anthropic. A triumvirate completed with Sonnet and Haiku.

Launched last May, Chatbot Arena is the brainchild of the Large Model Systems Organization (LMSYS Org). It was founded by students and faculty from UC Berkeley, in collaboration with UC San Diego and Carnegie Mellon University.

This marks a major historical pivot, whereby, in the time elapsed since the release of Chat GPT in late 2022, developers have reached a learning curve that has allowed them to compete with the formal heavyweight of Pre-Trained Learning Models.
